Bilateral Relations between Ukraine and Belarus are actively developing and can be characterized as Strategic Partnership

 

Volodymyr Lytvyn, Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, and Alexander Lukashenko, President of the Republic of Belarus, made the above-mentioned statement at the Friday´s meeting held within the scope of the official visit of the President of the Republic of Belarus to Ukraine. 

 

"It is a great honour for us to welcome you at The Verkhovna Rada, as you represent a friendly and close country, - stated V.Lytvyn, addressing A.Lukashenko. We highly appreciate the standpoint of Belarus regarding Ukraine, as well as your personal contribution into the development of trusting bilateral relations."

 

V.Lytvyn characterized the situation in Belarus as "dynamics, order and mutual understanding between the public and the authorities".

 

The Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine stated that the Ukrainian Parliament shall facilitate further development of bilateral cooperation at the legislative level.

 

The President of the Republic of Belarus stressed the dynamic nature of relations between Ukraine and Belarus, declaring that "strategic partnership is being presently considered ".

According to A.Lukashenko, the normative and legal base of bilateral relations is being regulated by 70 treaties and agreements. The President of the Republic of Belarus also stated that both countries had "close standpoints" regarding many issues of international relations. 

 

A.Lukashenko stated that all the problematic issues in the bilateral relations had been settled during the negotiations with Viktor Yushchenko, President of Ukraine.

 

"We establish friendly neighbouring relations with the country close to us, - stated A.Lukashenko. No insoluble matters will appear ". "The policy will always be conducted in the interests of our nations, as there are no topics closed to cooperation", - stated the President of the Republic of Belarus.

 

In his turn, V.Lytvyn stated: "I am convinced that the Heads of State are obliged to act wisely, as the politics relies upon the public mood".

 

The Parties discussed a number of issues appertaining to the cooperation between Ukraine and Belarus in various fields. A.Lukashenko stated the willingness of his country to assist Ukraine in all spheres. "As neighbours, we are always ready to respond to your call", - he stated.

 

The Parties also dwelled upon the presidential elections in Ukraine. The Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine expects that the presidential campaign will become "a serious dialogue about the country´s future". He also deems necessary to restore the dialogue between the authorities and the public. V.Lytvyn also believes that Ukraine shall revise its doctrine of international affairs and "reload" its foreign policy to meet the interests of the citizens. 

 

He believes that signing of the Agreement on Association with the European Union and the Free Trade Agreement are of great importance. V.Lytvyn also highly appreciates cooperation between Ukraine and Belarus within the scope of the Eastern Partnership program.  

 

The Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine expressed his gratitude to the President of the Republic of Belarus for the decision to bring forward the Agreement between Ukraine and Belarus on State Border for ratification by the National Assembly. The said Agreement was reached during the negotiations with the Head of the Ukrainian State.

 

The President of the Republic of Belarus characterized the upcoming presidential elections in Ukraine as "historic".
